Optical Devices!!!!

Hey everyone! So I had found this cool toy that people in the 1800's would entertain themselves with. This certain object was called a Thaumatrope. The Thaumatrope was a pretty complex toy, that would have two pictures in it. When you pull the strings quickly it would make a type of animation. Although it wasn't as popular, and as exciting, it would be a pretty cool toy. Since back in the day no one had t.v. so watching this would probably make time fly. It would be like a mini flip book. It seems like a cool toy, and I would like to see one now!!

This website did show all of the old optical toys, but it wasn't much of a interesting site. It was boring looking, they should try and make it more appealing to make more people look at it. Also maybe explain the toys more about how they work and everything.

This is a really cool Photoshop technique, because this will help you a lot with the blending that you would do. It helps you make your piece all the more lifelike. What is really cool is the fact that the sun rays really look cool. Also the instructions are so easy to follow, and the pictures show exactly what you have to do. It and easy thing to do, and the site has many more options.

Photoshop Trial

This is my Photoshop trial. For this trial what we had to do was learn all the basic steps on how to make a picture. Also blending pictures and all this cool stuff. So what I had tried to do was have the waterfall and then just make these people act like it was a water slide.

So what I had did to make this picture was have two layers. Then on the first layer what I had put was the background. The background was the waterfall. So what I did was just put it in, then on the second layer I had put the pictures of the people in the tube.  But then I had to cut away the rest of the picture. Which was easy to do as I had just used the quick selector tool, and selected all of the red from the original picture. But when I had to get really precise I had zoomed in and then used the lasso tool to cut away the excess colour. After that what I had done was move it around until it had worked with the background. Then I had went back on the background  and blurred up a bit of the water while it was falling. Just to make it look smoother.  The last thing I did was just make the opacity of the people a little bit lower. Just so it worked better with the background.
That is pretty much all I had did, and I hope you enjoyed my picture. Although it isn't the best (I know) but we were just testing it out.Plus I had fun making it. So Enjoy!! :)

Chess Piece

This is my chess piece. For this chess piece drawing I had to make sure the background had movement. Also the chess piece was proportional.  It had to have a sense of rhythm and draw your eyes.  Also the value of the chess piece and background had to be accurate. Especially from the point of view you were drawing it in.

So for mine I had just looked at my chess piece straight. So the ends especially have darker values. Although my chess piece does not look so super realistic like I was hoping for it did turn out pretty good with the shading.  To get my chess piece to look like this I had set it down on a table, and then put a book right beside it to make it darker. After I had put a bright light so it adds some more value to the picture. In this picture the proportion of the chess piece was meant to be small. This way your eye will go to it more. Although you can still tell it was a chess piece.

Now for the background for this piece I would say is the best part of the picture. I really liked the way it had turned out in the end. In the beginning I had thought that maybe it wouldn't work out that well. All because it was some what difficult to do , because of the  way it had to be shaded. The whole background had to come from memory which was hard, but it did turn out well and I am really happy about that. So for the movement in this picture. The movement is very good I would think, because it draws your eyes all along the page and brings it back to the chess piece too. Since the middle of the background (right at the chess piece) has a very 3D sort of motion in it. It sort of looks like there is a hole there and it is getting bigger as it moves out.

Overall for my chess piece I think I did a pretty good job with the chess piece. But an amazing job for the background of it. It had met all the standards of the moving your eyes around the page. So I think I did a good job,and I hope you enjoyed this too!!! :)

Composition in Photography!!

This picture has a type of viewpoint composition. All because I had done was sort of change the angle of this image by moving my camera higher up. This way it changes the whole message of the picture. If it was lower down then it would just be people playing football. But since it is higher up it makes you think of a great throw spiralling through the air. You might even think it could be the winning shot. It changes every one of your thoughts because of the angle it was shot in. Also the football is the main focus in this picture, but the other details add to it.

This picture has the rule of thirds sort of composition. In this picture you see the opposing team thinking of a strategy to defeat the home team. But as you can see they are in the corner, while all the other elements in the picture are not exactly blurry but a bit more unfocused. But it does mainly focuses on the team huddling together. You can imagine the lines there  and how they intersect at the edge. Say if you had two vertical and two horizontal lines they would intersect at the same place as the team.  Also if you do look closely you see two leading lines which sort of keeps the focus on what is inside of that rectangle.

This pictures has a leading line kind of composition. As you can see there are lines going through this picture. We are naturally drawn to lines. As we do like to see where they would lead to. In this picture they just go straight to the end of the field. Although there are three different types of lines on the field, you would still some what notice them. Especially the white one, it just slices right through the picture catching your full attention.  The two yellow one don't really catch your eye as much, but they do help bring out the white line a bit more.

Rhythm Assignment

This is my first logo. In this first logo you are just supposed to have lines that go in the same direction, but just vary the thickness, and quality of it. As I did some are thicker, and longer than others. My inspiration for this piece was like those heart monitors in hospitals. It shows you how fast your hearts beating, and it get really big sometimes. So this is related to rhythm because it has that same sort of continuous line segment.

This is my second logo, and in this logo we were allowed to change the direction of the lines. Along with all the Elements and Principles of them. So in this one I varied all the directions, but kept everything in a rhythmical matter. All because its continuous, and it has an illusion to it. I varied the thickness in some of the lines, but had to keep the beat going.

Overall this was just an exercise to help us figure out exactly what a line was. So all a line is, is just a mark that goes from point A to point B.

I'm so sorry this assignment came in late Mrs.Silverman but it didn't work when I was trying to upload them!!

Composition In Photography Tips!!

Here are 10 Composition Tips on photography, This site is a very helpful site it shows examples, and very detailed explanations. Also this site gives credits to the people who actually took the pictures. If you click on those names then it even takes you to there flickr page. Were that person explains their picture. I had really liked this website.

Here are 25 Composition Tips on photography. This composition site is a good site. It shows examples of the types of composition. Although there isn't much of an explanation. It just shows you more of the basic rules. Unlike the other  site, which explained everything in more details.

Here's two links that show a few tips about composition in photography!! It was really useful, and it showed some examples. I hope it helps you. Enjoy!!! =)

Logo Assignment!!

This is my logo. I had begun my research for this logo by just searching up my name. From my research I had found a lot of meanings in all different languages. My first name Hina meant: fragrance, henna, beautiful, goddess of fish or fishing, goddess of sun and grass. My last name Patel meant: Royal, owner of royal land. From there I chose goddess of fish, fishing because I love to fish, and I love fish in general. Also because fish are beautiful, and they have a sense of agility. From there I chose a whale, because whales are royal to the sea. They own it since they are much bigger, and have more control over their surroundings. Lastly becuase they are mammals just like us humans.

My brainstorming lead me to drawing fish jumping, and water just shooting up. After I thought that just the water shooting up was like when whales shoot water. So then I decided to try and draw a whale and see how it will turn out. I thought it worked well and went with the concept. Since like I had said the mammal represents me, as I am a mammal too. All the water that shoot up and is just there represents how these animals are beautiful. How even certain mammals can survive under water, and its gracefulness. I think it had worked really well.

The shapes I chose were just like circles, and ovals. They worked well, rather than putting other shapes. Also I didn't close all of the shapes, I just kept them they way they were. This way it would add a bit of mystery to the logos. All because in real life we don't understand everything about everyone, barely about these animals. They have that mystery to them that makes us want to know more about them. The colors I chose were just basic colors. But the colors had the sense of originality to them. The black and white was just black and white, but the colored logo had a lighter shade of gray. The water is a lighter color too. Why you might ask, because this is just they way it represents well, and how original it is. It brings out the shape and the design the logo. The line quality in this logo aren't clean and neat lines but more edgy and charcoaled lines. Yet even without the cleanliness of the lines it still adds more details to the logo. The lettering in this logo is very professional and cursive. There is movement in the writing which sort of helps draw your eye to the rest of the logo. Every line in this logo is confident and beautiful. There isn't any held back lines, but there are cut-off lines. Even with those lines it helps the logo in the overall vision.

When I had started my design process I had just sketched some of it. But then when I got onto Adobe Illustrator that's when I started to change up the lines and direction of my logo. I had changed it because you see it differently when it's larger and when its actually in front of you in color. Since in the beginning I didn't want bold lines, but then it turned bold after when I worked harder in the logo. I had learned a lot of different ways to write my name (like on paths, how to curve), and all the effects you could add to it. It had helped emphasize the logo, and make it more eye catching. The layering I did not need for my logo, because the whole thing came from my head and I didn't need to trace it.

Yes I am happy with how my logo turned out. Still though I think I could have added more details to my logo. But I wouldn't change too much of it, because it turned out pretty good. Since in the beginning I didn't think it would look that good. If I changed my logo some more than I personally don't think it would have been this good. Sometimes simpler is better. I learned that designing a logo had a lot of trial and errors. Also that it is not as easy as it looks, and will take forever to do sometimes. But in the end all the hard work will be worth it. I think that next I want to do something simpler, and easier, because we had spent forever just working on this. But also I want it to be fun,and creative. There isn't anything that I want to learn more about at the moment, but anything that will come in handy in the future will be helpful.

I hope you enjoyed my logo =)

"The Dying Lioness"

"The Dying lioness" By Ninevah c. 650.c
Location: The British museum

This sculpture is called the "The Dying Lioness" It is by Ninevah. This sculpture was made in c. 650 B.C. This sculpture is a strongly imitated piece. This portrays the subject of the sculpture with adequateness. Also you can tell exactly what it is right on the spot. You can tell it looks like a lioness, and people who like imitation work would feel strongly about this piece of depressingly strong work. The colours in this piece are mostly just grey and black. But the intensity makes you imagine a real live lioness being shot dead. They will clearly see the lioness and how she is dying. They will feel and see realistic intensity of this piece. This is what makes it appear like a life like piece of art. Not just visually, but emotionally.

The lines in this sculpture are beautifully strong. They really show off the graceful, powerful, and slenderness of this lioness. The texture of this sculpture is more rough than smooth. The space is used really well, just as well as the negative space in the sculpture. In the end it portrays a lot. The intense motion of the sculpture is really good. The lines are confident and strong. The shapes do reflect what the sculpture is. You can tell the sculpture is about a lioness dying, and the arrows are piercing through its body. You can see the muscles, and energy from the lioness are trying to bring it back up to fight more. But the effort is not helping. You can feel the movement in the sculpture, you feel the lioness getting up, but dying all at the same time.

This sculpture is a very expressive piece, because it does make you feel emotional. It makes you fell sad, but has that pride in it too. The mood is definitely not just melancholy, but happiness. It does communicate pride but your response to it is sadness. This piece makes me personally make me sad, happy, proud. This piece is a very emotional piece of artwork.

Overall this piece of artwork is very strong, and should be recognized by all!!! Ninevah did an amazingly fabulous job of showing real life troubles, into emotionally strong sculpture.

Logo Analysis

These logos are combination logos. They are combination logos because they are mixed with logotype, and Pictorial Visual. I think the TDSB Logo is more for parents and teachers. For parents because they know if it is a TDSB school it’s in Toronto. And for teachers it’s helpful for them when they need to find jobs. The Nike and Adidas logo is mostly for the athletes, normal people too. Like if you need to find good quality shoes then you might look for these brands knowing they are good quality shoes, and are known my many. The lines in the TDSB logo are not rigid but aren't totally loose. They are somewhat loose. The Nike and Adidas logos are more mechanical looking logos. Made to perfection. The TDSB logo is most likely to represent an apple. It is recognizable, and it says that this company is well managed, and well put. It says they are organized, and responsible. They can be trusted. The Nike logo is recognizable, and is a check mark. I think it would mean if you choose us you can’t go wrong. Its expresses movement, unlike the Adidas logo. The Adidas logo is more geometric, and doesn't express that much. I would say these logos work because they all represent something different. And also the colours all bring in different viewers. I think that these companies did a good job with their combination logos, and up to this moment are popular in their own ways.

Now these are all Logotype logos, and all represent something different. The YouTube logo is aimed for audiences of all ages. It could be meant for anyone to enjoy themselves, by watching videos of all sorts. The lines are very uptight and mechanical. I think YouTube is trying to tell you that they will most likely always be there, and you can always find them. The only shape in this logo is the red square over the word “Tube”. Its also doesn't flow or anything so you know this company is exactly letting go. The only colours are black and red, and this is how you know this company. Yes this logo does work because it is known by people all over the world, and is used, and searched everyday. The Dairy Queen and Coca-Cola logos are intended for again all aged audiences. It tries to sell to everybody because it is meant for the whole family. There aren't shapes in these logos because they are logotype logos, but the colours on these logos are very eye-catching. You would see them and know exactly where and what their from. They are known by many and possibly drunk/gone too by many. These logos do work. The Coca-Cola one is probably known by more, but they do work, and are succeeding right now.

These are Pictorial Visual logos. They represent Wendy’s, Pepsi, and Jordan’s. The intended audiences for these logos are kids/teens. The lines in the Pepsi logo are loose, and colourful  The Jordan’s logo is firm, and represents Michael Jordan. Wendy’s lines are playful and energetic. It tries to represent old fashioned things. In the Pepsi logo you can tell that it is a ball, and it shows that this company is going to keep rolling no matter what. The colours are red, blue, and white. It shows that it’s colourful  and is appropriate for all ages. Also this company works well in all countries. Except one of its top competitions, Coca-Cola. The Jordan’s logo has a pretty recognizable shape it is a picture of Michael Jordan shooting the ball in mid-air. But the fact that his face in the logo is blurred out, it isn't fully recognizable. The colours are usually always black and white, and it is appropriate for the age groups. Yes this company does work, because their shoes are just amazing. They are very popular almost as much as Nike, and Adidas, but the fact that they cost a lot brings some people down. Wendy’s logo has an imitation picture of a little girl with pigtails. This shows that this company is older fashioned, with the tastiness of today. The colours are blue, red, and white. But they aren't very bold beautiful colours  they are duller, old fashioned colours  This company does work pretty well, and is famous for its older taste in the new generations.

These logos are initial logos; they use only letters to represent their company/product. The intended audience for CNN and TD are mostly adults and people who will bring money to them. Although for McDonald's the intended audience is for people of all ages. CNN uses pretty firm lines for their logo, and they use one little line for the whole thing. The shape is this logo, aren't really shapes there mostly just letter spelt out with one line. They are recognizable shaped though. The colours for this logo are just white and red, the Canadian colours  It is appropriate because it’s supposed to say that they are there, and support us. This company I would say really does work, when it comes to something big. Next is the TD logo, the TD logo uses line but isn't too crazy with it. They are trying to stay calmer with their logo. The recognizable shapes are the letters: TD. They are very straight forward letters with no hassle. The colours they use in this are only green and white, this says that the company is more saving, and conservative. It doesn't waste time, and you can really trust them. This logo does work, because when you see it you know exactly who it represents. Also TD Canada Trust is trusted by many, and they are very respectful, just because they know how to work. The lines in the McDonald's logo are curvy, and are letting go. It shows this company isn't exactly very uptight. The shapes in this logo are again just a letter. The letter is M and it is a very recognizable M. The colours are red and yellow, so this particular logo does stand out. It shows this company would want to beat the rest, and still be the best. It is appropriate for all, and this particular company is one of the best fast food companies out there. It’s recognized by the world not only for its logo, but for its delicious food.

The logos you see here are abstract logos. The logos are Target, Reebok, and Canadian Tire. The intended audience for Target I would say is all ages, because it is a clothing store in America. The lines in this logo are looser, but still have an ideal image. The shapes in this logo are circles, which are supposed to represent a target. The colours in this logo are red and white which does tend to grab people’s attention. This will want to pull in people and make them try things out. It is appropriate for the audience and does work well in America. It is pretty popular. The second logo is the Reebok logo, which is intended for all. The lines in this logo are pretty cool, there loose, and fun. The shapes in this logo aren't exactly recognizable. There more like curvy triangles, and a square to maintain the shape in. The colours are blue, and white. It doesn't exactly express so much. It just says plain and simple we make your shoes the best we can. This logo I would say works pretty well, it doesn't work as well as Nike or Adidas but it does work well. The last logo is the Canadian tire logo it is more for handymen, but can have some normal kitchen sports, and school supplies. The lines in this are mechanical, and firm. They say that they will be there, with everything you are going to need. The colours in this logo are red, green and white. They are the main colours  This company works, and this logo works too. It works just as well as Home Depot, and Lowe’s. It’s a popular store, and is a helpful store. This is my logo Analysis :)

Andy Warhol

Andrew Warhola, Jr or mostly known as Andy Warhol was one of the most famous known artists till today. Andy was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on August 6th 1928. Andy was raised in the ghetto, but then moved on to the big apple, NEW YORK!! He had left his home with only $200, he had to use that money to survive and become a big shot.

Andy had become famous after selling some art pieces to a cafe in which a lot of celebrity's would hang out at. he would stay in the there and talk to the manager. Finally he got to sell his art work there and from there is when his career started! He would sell his work for about 12.50, but this was the only way he'd get noticed.
After selling his work there a bunch of celebrity's thought he was an amazing artist. So they started to go to him. Andy then become a famous person, not only for his work, and art. But also for owning the "Hot Spot" for all the celebrity's. They would hang at his studio where Andy would do all his work. He become very famous, and was #1!!
Andy Warhol had become famous or his all his work. Andy did bring a whole new era into art. This is what we call art today, and we should really appreciate all he's done for us. He was an amazing person and should be recognized, and respected by all. Sadly Andy had died February 22nd 1987,but will still be remembered. Luckily he has a museum and I would love to go see his artwork in that museum!!
                                               ^Andy's Amazing Pop-Art work!!!
